Padel fans in Birmingham have just three weeks to wait for the opening of two new clubs in the city.
Connect Padel Birmingham, backed by Brit actress and Golden Globe nominee Lily James, is opening its flagship site of four canopied courts at National League 1 Moseley Rugby Club, a location evolving into a sports village.
On the same day – July 26th – Core Padel is opening five indoor doubles courts plus a singles in Tyseley.
Birmingham has a long history with padel, with one of the first (if not the first) UK indoor padel centres– Padel Nation – opening in the city’s Yardley district in the mid 2000s. It now has almost a dozen padel facilities.
As revealed by The Bandeja, Connect Padel is committed to supporting the local community with an ethos that no-one gets left out of padel, as founder Charlie Thomson explained: “This is about more than just courts. It stands as a testament to our profound community commitment, creating a new hub for health, fun, and connection. Our pledge of 1,000 hours of free court time annually for local schools and charities is designed to break down barriers, enabling many across the community to experience the world’s fastest-growing sport.
“We’ve enjoyed a strong partnership with Birmingham Moseley Sporting Village and eagerly anticipate welcoming the people of Moseley and wider Birmingham to our new home.
“We’ve worked tirelessly to establish this exceptional facility, featuring four premium panoramic courts under a protective canopy for year-round enjoyment complemented by our clubhouse offering a welcoming space with a pro shop and café serving fantastic coffee.”
Lily James and her brother Charlie Thomson are launching Connect Padel UK
The courts will open to players on July 26th, with an official event on August 2 to tie in with the Moseley Sporting Village Summer Sports Fest. The event will include free padel, coaching and equipment hire.
Moseley Rugby Club CEO, Emma Wilkinson, said: “The Birmingham Moseley Sporting Village is an ambitious evolving multi-sport destination that brings together performance, participation and purpose.
“With a vision rooted in our 150-year legacy and a commitment to building a sustainable future, we are transforming our site into a vibrant, multi-use campus that connects elite sport with grassroots access, community development and commercial partnership. The Sporting Village reflects our ambition to become a beacon for sport and wellbeing in the Midlands.
“With a unique mix of facilities – from our legacy beach volleyball courts from the 2022 Commonwealth Games to the newly launched Connect Padel Birmingham and inclusive formats such as walking rugby, bowls, darts and football – we are building something far greater than a matchday venue,” added Emma. 🎾
