More than 20 firefighters were called to a fire at Game4Padel’s Padel Yard in Wandsworth, London, overnight.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to the incident – in the venue’s sauna area – taking almost an hour to bring the blaze under control.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The Brigade was first called about the incident at 3.24am, and crews from Wandsworth, Battersea, Fulham and Tooting fire stations were sent to the scene. Firefighters had the incident under control by 4.28am. A single storey structure, used as a sauna, was destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire is not yet known.”
Game4Padel has advised customers that it is open for business, with courts ‘running as normal’. It blamed an ‘electrical fire in the sauna area’ for the incident.
The Lowlu saunas (plus ice baths) opened on April 30th next to the Padel Yard’s covered courts. They proved a popular addition to the Padel Yard. In a video shared on social media flames can be seen leaping from the sauna area.
Game4Padel opened the Padel Yard in 2023. The Evening Standard named it as one of London’s best padel clubs but G4P recently announced the venue is to close – more information here. 🎾
